What is Midsommar?
Midsummer is the longest day of the year and was long considered a magical night. In agrarian times, the Swedes arranged Midsummer celebrations to welcome summertime and the season of fertility.

Where to celebrate in Dalarna county?
If you’re looking for the full experience, including people dressed up in traditional Swedish folk costumes, professional folk music and dancing, parade with the garlands, maypole raising and perhaps even a church boat race, Dalarna is the place to be.
There are multiple events arranged all over the county before, during and after Midsummer Eve.
Ingmarsspelen

What is Ingmarsspelen?
”It was a long and rather broad valley, with stretches of green and yellow grain fields, with mowed clover meadows, potato patches in flower, and little fields of flax with their tiny blue flowers, above which fluttered great swarms of white butterflies.” (Velma Swanston Howard’s translation, 1915)
This expressive description comes in the introductory chapter of Selma Lagerlöf’s novel, Jerusalem – i Dalarne (Jerusalem – in Dalarna). Selma Lagerlöf had been inspired to write this book by events in the Swedish Dales parish of Nås, when thirty-seven people sold up everything and emigrated to Jerusalem in the summer of 1896. Writer and actor, Rune Lindström, later adapted the novel for the stage and the dramatisation was called Ingmarsspelen – The Ingmar Play.
Vansbrosimningen

What is Vansbrosimningen?
Every year Sweden's largest open water swimming competition takes place in Vansbro. There are swimming competitions varying in length every day. The shortest being 1 km and the longest 3 km. In the evening there are all kind of events.
Dansbandsveckan Malung
When: 14 July - 20 July 2024
What is Dansbandsveckan?
The 'dance band week' is about couple dancing to the best dance bands on the best dance floors in a lovely environment. Entire Malung is transformed for a week into a giant dance palace. 82 Dance bands on six dance floors make people swing around in bug, foxtrot, swing, lindy hop and old dance.
Classic Car Week Rättvik
When: 26 July - 1 August 2024
What is Classic Car Week?
The place to be for classic car lovers! This is Sweden's largest car event. There are events throughout the week and the many cars cruising through Rättvik and surroundings.
